Green Steel is an Important Tool Help Combat Climate Change
I often write about the negative impacts steel and concreate have on our ecosystem and today I have some good news, what I like to call a game changer! A Swedish steel manufacturing plant has figured out a way to produce steel without using coal! As you are aware, steel is used for everything from construction and engineering to car parts and much more.
Green Steel is what they are calling it. It has been adopted by Volvo as a trial run to manufacture trucks and later swing into full production in 2026. This sustainable solution is derived by replacing coal needed to heat the steel with renewable energy and hydrogen! This scalable solution could help remove about 8% of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions with the aim of decarbonizing the steel making process. Wow, now that’s Thinking Greener!
