Do You Know About COP26

Have you ever heard of COP26? Not everyone has! Think Greener, LLC is preparing for another carbon neutral 3-month travel around the world!  We depart in late October with intensions of attending the 2021 United Nations Global Climate Change Conference, often referred to as Conference of the Parties (COP26). The 26 stands for the number of annual meetings held since 1995. This year, it will be held in Glasgow, Scotland between October 31^st and November 12^th and it is the largest summit the UK has ever hosted! You may remember back in 2019, when the young activist, @Greta Thunberg gave a climate speech that was heard around the world while she attended COP25 in Madrid, Spain. If not, no worries, I am sure she will attend COP26 and give another speech!

Do you know why COP26 is important? Not everyone does! This is the most significant climate event since Paris Agreement was written during COP21 in 2016. World leaders, from more than 190 countries, will come together for two weeks to discuss global responses for the current and future climate crisis. Each nation has agreed to cut their carbon emissions and will provide an update on their five-year plan agreed upon The Paris Agreement. The Paris Agreement focuses on reducing harmful greenhouse gases while increasing renewable energy, like wind, solar and tidal. All while trying to prevent global warming from reaching an increase of 2C-but ideally 1.5C.

COP26 is the first time the parties will review their NDS (climate action plans). Unfortunately, only 113 countries have submitted their NDSs. Climate solution financing will be a big discussion at COP26. More than 30,000 people are expected to attend from about 200 countries.
