USA Entering Into a Climate Dilemma

It’s been almost a week since Hurricane Ida made landfall in Louisiana and my heart goes out to all the people who were affected by this large devastating hurricane. There are still about 70% of people who are without power in Louisiana, and it may take up to 1 month before power is restored to all residents and businesses. Do you think the U.S. is prepared for the upcoming extreme weather events that are predicted to be our new normal?
I just heard some breaking news of a substantial oil spill located 2 miles offshore in the Gulf of Mexico caused by Hurricane Ida. The US Coast Guard and clean-up crews are racing to try and locate the source of the underwater oil spill.
In NYC 13 people died from the storm and NJ had the highest death toll of 25 people. Since 2005 extreme weather events have caused more than $450 billion in damages across the United States. Last year, a record high was reached, as we experienced 22 extreme weather events, each with a price tag of over $1 billion in damages. As these disasters become more severe and frequent, the cost of rebuilding continues to increase. This puts the U.S. in a climate dilemma of how to figure out where to send resources, funding, and which places are worthy of saving?
