The buses from Lubin attracted the attention of the Americans

For three months, they traveled around Europe in search of solutions to help reverse the effects of climate change, and finally they also visited Lubin. Robert and Ewa Schmitz, who flew to the Old Continent from the USA, liked the compressed gas buses that passengers do not have to pay for, green parks and street lighting in LED technology.

This is the first phase of our trip around the world. It started with a passion for traveling, but also with the expertise that my husband has in ecology. We wanted to see and illuminate the strategies that different countries are implementing to reverse climate change. We were in Denmark, Belgium and the Netherlands. We were unable to enter Sweden and Norway, where the borders were closed. We also visited Germany and Switzerland. They are the leading countries when it comes to introducing ecological solutions – says Ewa Schmitz. – On the other hand, Lubin – in our opinion – is a unique city in Poland when it comes to introducing such changes. For me, from Lubinian and Polish origin, it is very interesting to see that such things are happening. I can now understand why my mother is so proud of her city, she admits.

Ewa’s mother still lives in Lubin and she showed her son-in-law an article about the ecological, compressed gas-powered buses that the local PKS bought.

“She said,” Robert, you have to see this “because she knew I was interested in ecological solutions to prevent climate change. When my wife told me that they drive for free, I thought it was great, says Robert Schmitz, once an employee of a New York corporation dealing with architecture and construction management through the prism of sustainable design in a built environment, today the owner of the consulting company Think Greener, educating and helping to reverse climate change. – Now more than ever we understand that the world must change. We cannot produce so much CO2 into the atmosphere, because it leads to a deepening of the greenhouse effect and changes in the atmosphere, and this affects our health and problems with breathing. We are talking about breathing clean air, and it is here in Lubin that I see that people pay attention to it. The air is clean here – he adds.

Therefore, the couple decided to add Lubin as one of the points on their itinerary. Here, they discussed ecological solutions with the city authorities and the management of PKS.

They noticed that Lubin is ecological, green, our bus transport for PLN 0, of which we are the precursors, thanks to which we have less exhaust fumes. They also liked LED lighting, which adjusts the light intensity to the traffic – if a car is driving, it shines brighter, it dims when the street is empty – enumerates Bogusława Potocka, president of the city council in Lubin. – We are glad that our actions have been noticed – he adds.
