Earth Day and Earth Week is a time for me to reflect on important aspects of the climate crisis. It is a time for action and advocacy. Several thoughts come to mind: Is modern society living in harmony with our beautiful Mother Earth? How can I reduce my carbon footprint while implementing new sustainable solutions into my everyday life? How can I engage in sustainable actions with my friends and family? Can I make a positive impact in my community? What organizations can Think Greener, LLC join forces to help reverse the devastating and unprecedented effects of the climate crisis? What actions can I take to promote positive policy change benefiting a sustainable, just society and economy?
Looking back on Earth Week 2022, I wanted to share a special event. I was part of a panel discussion for the fourth Annual Earth Week Summit hosted by the Green Team Academy (GTA) focusing on science and solutions. This was an opportunity to share my experience as an award-winning eco champion during the 90-day International Climate Action Challenge (ICAC) of 2021 and to be amongst grassroots leaders from around the world. It also allowed me to be a messenger of sustainable action, focusing on empowering people to be the change while engaging in community.
I spoke about the need to live a regenerative life and making a shift towards a circular economy, concentrating on implementing sustainable solutions. During the 90-day challenge, Think Greener, LLC traveled through nine countries in Europe and the United Kingdom as we focused on the power of story. We shined our sustainable spotlight on people, companies and organizations implementing solutions and helping to reverse the effects of the climate crisis. As part of the 90-day challenge, we created a 60-second video highlighting sustainable solutions from around the world.
Participating in the International Climate Action Challenge allowed us to connect with 75 teams from 28 countries going from passion into action. These teams held over 200 events, engaged 26,000 community members, planted over 150,000 trees, started an additional 100,000 tree seedlings, created 130 community gardens, removed 48 tons of debris from waterways, diverted 8.9 tons of waste into compost, and so much more. All of this completed during a worldwide pandemic!
The 90-day challenge fostered a relationship between Think Greener, LLC and Trinity Forestry Services, LTD (TFS). The TFS goal is to plant 1 million trees in Uganda by December 2022. We made a financial contribution to aid their goals of planting 1 million trees while offsetting our carbon footprint as we traveled for six months in 2022. Think Greener, LLC now has a GoFundMe campaign setup for Trinity Forestry Services to continue helping them reach their reforestation goal. One hundred percent of donations go directly to our reforestation campaign!
Participating in the Green Team Academy’s 90-day ICAC has been an amazing and rewarding experience. Since the Earth Week Summit, I have been in close collaboration with the Green Team Academy and became a proud Board member. I am excited for this opportunity as I am part of the marketing and branding team, pulling together material to launch the International Climate Action Challenge for 2022!
